HELP
Getting started with Speechy.
Speechy joins your Zoom meeting as an AI interpreter for each language you choose. Participants pick their language in Zoom's Interpretation menu, the same way they would with a human interpreter.
Before you start
- A Zoom account whose plan includes Language interpretation, with it turned on: Zoom web portal → Settings → Meeting → In Meeting (Advanced) → Language interpretation. If you can't find the setting, your plan may not include it; ask your Zoom admin or Zoom support.
- Apps must be allowed on your Zoom account (your admin may need to approve Speechy).
- The Zoom desktop app for Windows or Mac, kept up to date.
- You must be the host or a co-host of the meeting to start interpretation.
1. Add Speechy to Zoom
- Open Speechy's page in the Zoom App Marketplace and choose Add.
- Review the permissions and choose Allow.
- Speechy now appears in the Apps menu of your Zoom meetings.
Not working? See Troubleshooting.
2. Start interpretation in a meeting
- Start your meeting as host, then open Apps → Speechy.
- Choose the languages your guests need. The panel shows how many interpretation minutes your organization has left this month.
- Choose Start interpretation.
- Adding Speechy already gave it permission to join your meetings on your behalf. If you didn't add Speechy yourself, Zoom asks you to allow this the first time; choose Allow. You only do this once.
- Zoom may ask you to approve sharing the meeting's audio with Speechy. Approve it.
- One Speechy interpreter joins for each language, named for its language (for example "Speechy Spanish Interpreter"). Admit them if your meeting has a Waiting Room.
- Open Zoom's Interpretation settings, add each Speechy interpreter with a language pair that includes its language (for example English → Spanish), then choose Start.
- The Speechy panel checks off each step. When every step is done, it shows Interpreting.
- Participants choose Interpretation in their meeting controls and pick their language.
To stop, choose Stop in the Speechy panel. Interpretation also stops when you leave or end the meeting, when your organization's monthly minutes run out, or after 4 hours.
How minutes are counted
Each minute of interpretation into one language uses one minute. One hour into Spanish and French uses 120 minutes. The number of listeners doesn't matter.
Tips for the best results
- Use a good microphone and ask one person to speak at a time.
- Expect a short delay: interpretation follows the speaker by a few seconds.
- Tell participants that AI interpretation is in use. For high-stakes content, use a qualified human interpreter.
3. Troubleshooting
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| "Only the host or a co-host can start or stop interpretation." | Ask the host to make you a co-host, then reopen Speechy. If you are the host and just added Speechy, end the meeting and start a new one: Speechy learns who the host is when a meeting starts. |
| Zoom keeps asking you to allow Speechy, or "Zoom could not confirm your permission for Speechy." | Remove Speechy from your Zoom account and add it again from the Zoom App Marketplace, then start a new meeting and press Start. If it repeats, email support. |
| "Speechy's interpreter waited too long for Zoom's interpretation setup." | The interpreter joined but wasn't assigned in time. Press Start again, then complete the Interpretation steps in Zoom within a few minutes. |
| "All Speechy interpreters are busy." | Speechy is starting more capacity; try again in a few minutes. |
| "Zoom did not let Speechy's interpreter join (Zoom code …)." | Check that the meeting isn't locked and that external participants are allowed, then press Start again. Send us the code if it repeats. |
| Participants can't find their language | Check that interpretation is started in Zoom's Interpretation settings and that each Speechy interpreter has the right language pair. |
| Your minutes have run out | Interpretation can't start until next month's minutes arrive or you change plans. See Plans. |

4. Remove Speechy
- Sign in to the Zoom App Marketplace.
- Choose Manage → Added Apps, find Speechy, and choose Remove.
When you remove Speechy, we automatically delete your Zoom authorization and your account records; if you were your organization's last user, we delete the organization's data too. Speechy never stores meeting audio or transcripts. Details: Data requests.
